JAM qualifying marks and IIT admission ranks answer different questions. Qualifying marks tell you whether you cleared the paper. Admission ranks show how far seat allotment went for a particular programme, category and round.

The General cutoff rose sharply from 2024 to 2025, then fell in 2026. There is no fixed “safe qualifying mark” for the next paper. For admission planning, the rank tables below are more useful than treating last year's qualifying mark as a target score.
Economics seats through JAM EN in 2027
The 2027 brochure, page 65, lists the following seats. These are seats allocated through EN, not every Economics seat available through every route.

| MSc Economics programme | General | Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) | Other Backward Classes — Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) | Scheduled Castes (SC) | Scheduled Tribes (ST) | Total EN seats |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| IIT Delhi | 6, including 1 PwD seat | 2 | 4 | 2 | 1 | 15 |
| IIT Kanpur | 10, including 1 PwD seat | 2 | 7 | 3 | 2 | 24 |
| IIT Roorkee | 5 | 2 | 4 | 1 | 1 | 13 |
| Total | 21 | 6 | 15 | 6 | 4 | 52 |
The EN totals were also 15, 24 and 13 respectively in the 2026 admission brochure. Individual PwD allocations need to be read from the relevant year's table.
These are seats through EN, not each programme's full intake. For example, the 2027 brochure also lists 16 MSc Economics seats at IIT Kanpur through Mathematical Statistics (MS).
Closing ranks across the 2026 admission rounds
These are General-category closing AIRs, not marks or category ranks.

| IIT Delhi MSc Economics | 7 | 11 | 22 |
| IIT Kanpur MSc Economics | 21 | 32 | 45 |
| IIT Roorkee MSc Economics | 24 | 34 | 48 |
Closing ranks moved further down the list in later rounds. If you do not receive an offer in the first round, keep checking subsequent allotments.

Comparing your rank with previous closing ranks
When comparing your result, match the paper, programme, category and round. A closing rank for Mathematics admission to an Economics programme is not an EN closing rank.
Put programmes in the order you would actually prefer to join. Include options you would accept even if their previous closing rank looks less competitive. Check the allotment deadlines: an offer can lapse if you miss the required response or payment. The admissions guide explains the steps after the result.
