Smith · Your AI learning assistant

When an explanation isn’t enough,
ask Smith.

Start with one question, review a completed test, or look across your preparation. Smith helps you understand the results already in Xaptiq and decide what to focus on next.

Smith

Example chat

I chose “shift in demand”. Why is my answer wrong?

The question says only the good’s own price changed. With other factors unchanged, that means a movement along the demand curve, not a shift.

A shift happens when something else changes, such as income or preferences.

Price changes: move along.
Other factors change: the curve may shift.

Named in honour of Adam Smith, the father of modern economics.

Help that starts with your results

From “why?” to “I see.”

Smith is Xaptiq’s AI learning assistant for economics exam preparation. It explains answers, walks through reasoning, supports follow-up questions, reviews completed tests and helps learners understand their wider preparation. Ask what is confusing, share your reasoning, or use a suggested starting point.

Understand

Make sense of your answer.

Ask why your chosen option does not work. Smith uses the question, answer key and explanation, and may ask how you reasoned before suggesting what to revisit.

Explore

Learn it your way.

Start with intuition, ask for a familiar example, or work through the mathematics. Choose a direct explanation or guided questions, and tell Smith when a step needs more attention.

Personalise

Help that feels more like you.

Reopen saved chats and choose messages Smith can remember. Your preferences can shape future explanations for the same exam and topic.

One question · One test · Your preparation

See what matters. Know what to do next.

Smith can explain one answer, review a whole test, or help you read your wider progress. It uses the evidence already on screen. It does not recalculate your scores or change your plan.

Begin with a result

Your learning is already in context.

Smith works inside your test results and preparation progress. It is not a separate test or a general-purpose chatbot.

    Understand your preparation.

Open Preparation, then Progress, and choose Ask Smith. Smith connects your test history, important subjects, exam time and current plan.

A step further in personalisation

Things Smith remembers.
Chosen by you.

Prefer everyday examples or explanations one step at a time? Tell Smith, then choose to remember that message. It can help make future replies about the same exam and topic more useful to you.

  1. Turn it on. After your first reply, open Chat options (•••), then Things Smith remembers. Turn on Let Smith remember.
  2. Choose what to remember. Choose a short message you wrote and select Remember this.
  3. Stay in control. View remembered messages in Settings & usage. Select Forget this to remove one, or turn the feature off to forget them all.

For example: “Please use a simple example when explaining income and substitution effects.” Choose Remember this so Smith can use your preference for later help on that topic.

This is off by default. Nothing is remembered automatically. Forgetting a message does not delete your saved chat. Your test results and study plan stay unchanged. See privacy details.

Usage & credits

Complimentary credits
for AI assistance.

Included once · Where enabled

10,000 credits

Complimentary with any exam package.

Active exam package access is required. Credits do not represent a fixed number of questions or replies.

View your usage

New replies use credits.

Each new reply uses credits, whether you type a question or choose a suggested prompt. Longer questions, conversations and replies can use more credits.

Saved help stays accessible.

Saved chats, test explanations, reports, exports and privacy controls do not use AI credits. Failed or safety-withheld replies do not use your credits.

How credits work

Tokens are small pieces of text, such as a word or part of a word. Smith uses tokens to read and reply. Your credits are used based on token usage—not just the message you type.

The test question, its explanation, earlier messages needed for context and Smith’s reply all count. Longer conversations, detailed replies and questions that need more working out can use more tokens and credits.

Check your remaining credits in Settings & usage.

Credits are complimentary once per exam package. Deleting chats does not add more. Daily limits may apply. Credits cannot be transferred, and buying credits is not supported yet.

Good to know

Useful help. Honest limits.

Smith supports your learning. It does not replace your teacher or the need to check an answer.

Can Smith help with UGC NET Economics and Paper I?
Yes. Smith is included in Xaptiq’s UGC NET Economics test series. Ask about a submitted Paper II Economics or Paper I General Paper answer, review a whole test, or understand your preparation across the Paper II subjects in your plan. Active package access and available credits are required for new replies.
How do I access Smith?
Smith is included with exam packages where it is enabled. After a test, use Ask Smith beside a question, Analyse this test in Insights, or Ask Smith in Preparation > Progress. You need active package access and available credits for a new reply.
Can Smith explain my results and progress?
Yes. A test review can show what went well, bring related gaps together and suggest a revision order. A preparation review connects your past tests, the importance of each subject, time left for the exam and current plan. Smith explains the evidence already in Xaptiq; it does not calculate a new readiness score or change your plan. These one-off reviews use package AI credits and are not saved as chats.
Does Smith search books or recorded lectures?
Not in this version. It starts from the submitted question, answer key and reference explanation, with relevant chat history and messages you have asked Smith to remember. Book and lecture search are not connected.
What if a reply seems wrong?
AI can make mistakes, and the reference explanation can also have inconsistencies. Use the report control beside a reply to share it for review.
Why might a reply be stopped?
Smith is for educational conversations. Safety checks run before a reply is generated and before it is shown. Unsafe content or unavailable checks can stop a reply. Checks can make mistakes; they do not automatically penalise your account.
Who can see my conversations?
Only reported chats are visible to our admins and teachers. A report includes your message, Smith’s reply and the test question. You can choose whether to include the rest of that chat. Read the Smith privacy details or manage the choice in Settings & usage.
